Lost Souls

The mood of midnight and turmoil deep
Crashing thunder and forests of green
Seas of blue and stars so bright
Constant hunger and heart of fright
Loud half-whispers and quiet screams
No rhyme or reason that fit the means
Jagged edges and razors sharp
No way to fix the shattered part
Fire soothes, and water burns
Careless words that twist and turn
Perilous heartache and shattered souls
Loss of dreams and thrown-away goals The distance calls, the sky so bright
They are calling from the light
Reaching far to the hands
That save them from the sinking sand
Tonya Mills - June 2022
This poem was my first published. I submitted it to Silent Spark Press, which is an online publication that provides digital subscriptions for poetry, stories, photography, etc. It was chosen and published in June 2022.
When this poem was published, it helped me believe in myself and my abilities. Within a couple of months, I began working with a writing coach, Paolina Milana, who started me on the path to becoming an author. I am now a published author, working on two new books, and have a book signing this fall for "The Caregiver Chronicles: 22 Family Caregivers Get Real About the Ties That Bind".
If you had asked me two years ago where I thought I would be now, I would not have guessed this. So many people encouraged me to follow my dreams of being a writer/author. I am so glad I did!

You are an inspiration. Excellent poem ❤️
